Background

The M004/N004 diagnostic cable is widely used across various brands, such as APRILIA, DUCATI, PIAGGIO, VESPA, MOTO GUZZI and CFMOTO. This cable, like the vehicle's diagnostic port, consists of only three communication cables, omitting the conventional power and ground cables. Therefore, an external power source must be used to power the diagnostic scanner, enabling the device to activate and perform normal diagnostics.

Preparation

Preparation: MOTOMASTER, M001A, M002, M002A

Solution

Solution：After connecting the M004 or N004 diagnostic cable to the vehicle's diagnostic port, use the M002 Dual-clip cable and M002A Dual-clip ground cable to draw power from either the vehicle's own battery or an external battery to enable diagnostic communication.

Scenario 1:

(M004 diagnostic cable connected to vehicle, vehicle battery installed and voltage normal)

①Connect the scanner, M001A main cable, M004 diagnostic cable, and the vehicle's diagnostic port ;

②Use the M002 Dual-clip cable: clamp the red end to the vehicle battery positive (+) terminal, and the black end to the battery negative (-) terminal. Then plug the 12V output connector into the 12V power input port on the side of the M001A main cable ;

③Check the scanner's power indicator light. If it turns green, the scanner is receiving power normally and ready for communication ;

④If the power indicator does not light up, it means the scanner is not receiving power. Check whether the M002 cable's fuse is blown, whether the vehicle's output voltage is normal, and whether the scanner has been updated to the latest version ;

⑤If all checks are normal, proceed to Scenario 2.

Scenario 2:

(M004 diagnostic cable connected to vehicle, but vehicle battery is dead or inaccessible)

①Connect the scanner, M001A main cable, M004 diagnostic cable, and the vehicle's diagnostic port ;

②Prepare a known-good 12V external battery ;

③Use the M002 dual-clamp power cable: clamp the red end to the external battery positive (+) terminal, and the black end to the external battery negative (-) terminal. Then plug the 12V output connector into the 12V power input port on the side of the M001A main cable ;

④Use the M002A dual-clamp ground cable: connect one end to a vehicle grounding point, and the other end to the negative (-) terminal of the external battery ;

⑤Check the scanner's power indicator light. If it turns green, the device is receiving power normally and ready for communication ;

⑥If the power indicator does not light up, it means the scanner is not receiving power. Check whether the M002 cable's fuse is blown, whether the external battery's output voltage is normal, and whether the scanner has been updated to the latest version.
